Shinjuku part 2

Shinjuku is one of these places that you can’t forget. I remember being there one year ago and this left me with a feeling of craziness. A massive district full of people , neons , bars , clubs and some more dodgy things .. I was excited to get back to this place. We always say that the first times are often the most exciting but if we come back to it , we are getting used to it and the experience intensity naturally decreases. But it was still quite a culture shock. Let’s rediscovered Japan’s busiest district , Shinjuku.

Shinjuku by night.

To get the most atmospheric and psychedelic colors , it is best to enjoy this district at night , and especially just after a rain as it gives some beautiful light reflections ! I got lucky as it was slightly raining.

P1060860Kabukicho , the red light district of Shinjuku. This area is quite underground and is home to many Yakuzas and some dodgy clubs. In my opinion this is the most interesting area to get the Dystopian / Cyber punk feel in Tokyo city. Saying that there is many things there that I quite horrible. I talk about prostitution , violences and others .. A place where human rights are definetly not king. Japan isn’t just this postal card with smiles everywhere. It is good to remember that. The spectrum of the human condition is huge and is fascinating even thought I dont agree with some aspects
Enought talking , let’s go on a photo safari !

Kabucho is an experience that every traveller should add to their visits while in Tokyo. It has certainly a bad reputation amongs Japaneses. But it’s quite safe as long as you don’t mess around. You have to be careful there because many scams focusing on tourists are going on. They attract you in one of the many “girls bar” , let you enjoy and tell you a fixed price which magically end up to become 20 times higher ! I heard this story a few times on internet. So make sure to don’t fall in that trap 😉

P1060893Welcome to Sin city.

P1060901Shinjuku definitely is Japan’s busiest district.  Shinjuku station is actually the most busy on planet earth ! Handling more than two million passengers every day.

This night stroll in Shinjuku was mindblowing. To get lost in thoses colors , thoses masses of people , smells and sounds , is hypnotising. This will not be a spot where I would enjoy hanging out but it is nevertheless a fascinating area of Tokyo , and great for pictures too.

I would like to bring you to another place now. They is bar’s in Tokyo which are music orientated. Tonight I am going to one of theses Listening Bar. It is not a place to dance but rather to enjoy good and fine music with friends, or by yourself.

Welcome to Spincoaster Music bar. Once you open that door it is a completely new environment. An oasis for all music lovers.

P1060922Many vinyls inside.

You could actually ask to play some of your favorite artists. The soundystem was very well balanced and gived that cool atmosphere. Not to loud but just enought to feel thoses tracks. I could play some Tom Misch and Tatsuro Yamashita , happy days. The crowd inside was also super nice and I ended up making some new friends. There is a 700 yen charge (5.5 euro) to sit inside. The drinks were slightly more expensive than normal Izakayas but this was not a normal bar either. Spincoaster was a cool experience which I recommend. I plan to discover a few more of these so call Listening Bar as Tokyo as many of them.
