Today we are taking a walk in Shuzenji Onsen.
This area is well known for having top-notch onsens , ryokans and fresh wasabi. We wanted to stay there for our trip but the prices were way to high for us. If you look for high standing accomodations , Shuzenji town should be the place to go. As cheap travellers we booked a ryokan 10 times cheaper and just located 30 min away from this town.
Sweet little town surrounded by nature.

This is a famous Ashi yu or foot onsen. Here you can have a relaxing time. Onsen water comes from the volcanic layers and has great benefits for health. Your feet will thanks you for this little treat !

Scenic walk in this quiet town. You can spot some ryokans on the right side of the rivers.
Shuzenji also have a small bamboo forest.

Small Arashiyama , Kyoto ? This forest is actually super small. The area is filled with natural bamboo forest all around.
Izu peninsula is also famous for his Wasabi (being the birthplace) therefore many “Wasabi” food can be found. The one that has been repeated to us the most is the Wasabi Ice cream. Sounds a bit strange right but we need to try it.

Wasabi ice cream ! It was okay but nothing special to me. The wasabi spiciness isn’t the greatest match with ice cream I think. Although it’s fun to try it once.
Enjoying ice cream in the super hot Ashi yu , foot onsen.

Napping time.
Exploring a bit more …

A beautiful Buddhist temple.

This water container is used to purify people before they get to pray. You must wash both hands and your mouth. Fun fact , the water from this container … was from onsen water ! Which means it was hot.

Free tofu tasting on our way , with fresh wasabi of course.
Last light of the day against the moss.

Tatsuta Ryokan , our accommodation for our last day. This place was truly magical and cheap. The best ryokan experience I had in Japan so far. The outdoor onsens were all private and surrounded by nature , a special place.
Shuzenji was an off the beaten track destination. We really enjoyed this calm and pretty area , the scenic nature all around and the Wasabi farms too. Shuzenji isn’t famous amongst tourists and it’s better this way , the area retains a traditional vibe and has great onsens ! A secret area to explore.
The mount Fuji is calling for us for our next adventure ..
See you then !
